Home » About TJOC
TJOC is an orienteering camp for experienced young orienteers. Our goal is to field competitive junior orienteers from the Southwest who can compete and win at the National and International levels! The camp is a joint effort by the North Texas Orienteering Association (NTOA), Houston Orienteering Club (HOC), Ark-La-Tex Orienteering Society (ALTOS), Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC).
The camp has most recently (2003 - 2007) been held at the Sid Richardson Boy Scout Ranch near Bridgeport, Texas. The facilities are air conditioned dorms and cottages at the Lakeview Conference Center on Lake Bridgeport. The camp fee includes lodging, all meals, a TJOC T-shirt, training materials and maps, all orienteering training as well as other adventure training activities such as rock climbing, rappelling and water sports.
The camp is for any experienced junior (ages of 14-18 years) orienteer in excellent health and physical condition. This is not a beginner camp. See the prerequisites for each level of training! Those at the orange level will undergo Intermediate training. Those who have attended TJOC or are at the brown or higher level will undergo Advanced training. Elite level training is by invitation only and is for seasoned, advanced orienteers who are interested in teaching, setting up and running orienteering events and competitions.
The training and management staff is composed of veteran orienteers and over the years has included:
